On September 28, when the municipal police of Versailles (Yvelines) asked a motorist to stop to check his papers, the latter, in a state of intoxication, verbally attacked them and tried to escape. "He spat in their faces and did the same thing again when he arrived at the police station," reports a source familiar with the matter. Placed in custody for refusing to comply while waiting to be brought before the judicial court the next day, the 26-year-old man indicates that he suffers from dizziness. He was then transported to André-Mignot du Chesnay hospital.

Placed in a box while waiting to be examined, he takes advantage of the situation to undo the ties that hold him to the stretcher and flees.

"He managed to escape despite the presence of the police, it went very quickly," continues the same source.

The group of flagrante delicto of Versailles undertakes the search at the home of his companion but does not find the individual.

The use of CCTV cameras, the intervention of the tracking dog and the neighborhood survey do nothing.

Sentenced to 15 months imprisonment

The group violence against people of urban security takes over via telephone tapping and manages, two weeks later, to locate the escapee. He is about to rent a hotel room in Gennevilliers in the Hauts-de-Seine. "Our colleagues from Gennevilliers were very responsive to question him as he was the subject of a search warrant," explains a police officer. Auditioned, the defendant explains that he acted for fear of going back to prison.

Placed in pre-trial detention in the prison of Fresnes (Val-de-Marne), the 26-year-old Yvelinois was sentenced to 15 months' imprisonment during the trial held on Monday for drunk driving, refusal to obey, rebellion and escape.

His flight is at the origin of a reflection within the police services.

"This type of event is rare, but we will try to review the conditions of custody of people who are taken to the hospital, perhaps by locating the boxes elsewhere within the establishment so that they are further away. outings, ”concludes a police source.
