A former student of the École normale supérieure, Christophe Bouillaud has been an associate professor of political science at the Grenoble Institute of Political Studies since 1999 and an associate of social sciences. He specializes in Italian politics and international relations.
LE FIGARO. - In Italy, the center-left won in municipal elections, victorious in particular in key cities such as Rome, Turin, Milan, Bologna and Naples. The right appears to be the big loser in this election. How do you analyze these results?

The sociology of big cities is the first explanation.
As in many European countries, the rout of the right is presented in the media through these metropolises (Rome, Turin, Milan) which are sociologically more and more unfavorable to the right.
In city centers, voters are generally more educated and their income more comfortable.
