The FOS in Haar is young, technically well equipped, but urgently needs its own school building.

She is currently housed in an office complex.

A visit.

- The four photos of the teaching staff in the office of the headmistress Nicola Tauscher-Meric show the rapid growth of the FOS in Haar.

In the first picture from the founding year 2018, only twelve teachers are smiling at the camera, in the following two years there are more and more - today there are so many that they can hardly fit in the photo together.

“We have grown tremendously,” says Tauscher-Meric, “this year alone we have 32 new teachers.” There are now 71 teachers in total, giving around 900 students a technical college entrance qualification - the educational institution started four years ago with only 195 young people.

The school at Hans-Brush-Strasse 10a is young, dynamic and technically well equipped - the FOS only lacks a real school building.

"We are actually also working on the idea of a BOS, for example for the health sector," says the headmistress, "but that only makes sense with a new school building."

"We just try to make the best of it"

At the moment, the FOS is housed on three floors of a property that was actually intended for offices. Above all, the school lacks a gym and some companies in the building felt repeatedly disturbed by the students. “We just try to make the best of it,” says Tauscher-Meric. But she hopes that the situation will soon change, because if the school continues to grow so fast, the building will simply no longer be sufficient. The headmistress appeals to the cooperation between the city and the district to come up with a concept as soon as possible. A new building on the north side of the Gronsdorf train station has been under discussion for a long time, but “has not yet been decided, planning has stalled”.

Nevertheless, the 49-year-old emphasizes the good cooperation with the district of Munich, to which she owes the good technical equipment, which made her perfectly equipped for online lessons from day one of the pandemic. “It was worth gold that we had an office, tablets and teams right from the start. It was all financed by the district, ”says Tauscher-Meric. “The technical equipment is really a luxury,” says Yannick (19) from Oberpframmern in the Ebersberg district, who will probably study physics here at the FOS after graduating. Just like his classmate Laura (18), he takes the bus and S-Bahn from Oberpframmern to Haar every day. “I had the choice between Wasserburg and Haar,” says Laura. "I came to the FOS after secondary school,so that I can then study elementary school teaching or teaching for special schools. ”Her classmate David (20) from Vaterstetten is also at the FOS to enable her dream of studying politics and economics. "I only considered switching to grammar school after secondary school, but then thought to myself: It is easier to do the Abi among my peers."

Reasons for growth

The fact that more and more young people want to study instead of an apprenticeship is one of the reasons for the rapid growth of the FOS.

According to the headmistress, Tauscher-Meric, two out of three students say: "I want to study."

Other schools in the district such as the FOS / BOS in Unterschleißheim have exploded in recent years.

Around a quarter of the students come from the outskirts, the rest from the surrounding area, most of them logically from nearby places such as Haar or the Trudering district.

The good atmosphere and the modern orientation are also very important for the popularity of the school.

“That is the advantage of a start-up with many committed young colleagues.

When you walk through the corridors, you can feel the positive spirit here, ”enthuses the headmistress Tauscher-Meric.

And the students also talk about the good atmosphere: “The student-teacher ratio here is great!” Says Yannick.

David can also confirm: “There is a feeling of togetherness because all the teachers are so young.” This can also be seen in the pictures in the directorate.

Future recordings of even larger colleges could then perhaps be made in front of a new school building of their own.
