The sounds of flames and their scenes devouring people’s livelihoods and orchards are still present in the minds of Syrians, despite the passage of a year since that crime, which shaped a tragedy that affected people and trees and pushed hundreds of families to flee after the fires surrounded their villages and swept them along with thousands of dunums of agricultural and forest lands.

The first spark was ignited simultaneously in more than one area in the governorates of Lattakia, Tartous, Homs and Hama after the middle of one of the nights of October last year, to put the Syrians in front of difficult moments, with which their night turned into a ball of fire driven by the force of the wind, and it was only hours until many villages and towns were facing directly with the flames.

The first scenes reported by the media suggested the magnitude of the upcoming disaster. Whoever lit those fires was aware that all weather conditions would contribute to their expansion and the inability to control them to cause the greatest amount of damage and affect the widest possible area, and the picture was livelihood and wealth burning before the eyes.

Hard days lived by the people of the four governorates who faced the fire with all their determination and desire to live to drive the fire off their properties and lands, along with the firefighters, the Syrian Arab Army and all concerned parties that tried to contain and limit the disaster, but the damage affected thousands of families and the fire devoured 13,000 hectares Of the agricultural crops, including thousands of trees of olives, citrus fruits and apples, farmers' losses approached 30 billion liras.

During those days, the Syrians faced more than 187 fires that affected 280 villages and towns, and the fire damaged more than 370 homes and destroyed more than 11,000 hectares of forested land, and caused significant damage to livestock, agricultural equipment, and infrastructure related to electricity, water, sanitation, and the telephone network.
