After a fatal accident: This is how the danger zone should be defused

A motorcyclist died, a cyclist was seriously injured: Tattenkofener Straße in Geretsried is considered dangerous.

After great pressure from citizens, there should now be changes.

Geretsried - The pressure from the city and citizens - an online petition with around 2,200 supporters has been started - has had an impact: The State Building Authority in Weilheim will defuse the danger zone on State Road 2369, Tattenkofener Straße.

Once again after 2009 and 2014, a serious accident occurred there on September 25, as reported.

According to the police, a motorcyclist overtook a motorist shortly before the Zehnerhüttenweg / Breslauer Weg crossing while she was slowing down because of a cyclist crossing the street in front of her.

The motorcyclist collided with the 76-year-old cyclist.

The 64-year-old died as a result of his injuries, the woman was seriously injured.

Mayor Michael Müller (CSU) then wrote to the State Building Authority with the request that something be done urgently.

Last Friday, the accident commission met in Geretsried town hall, consisting of town hall chief, representatives of the lower traffic authority in the district office, police and employees of the state building authority.

Its Head of Road Construction, Stefan Scheckinger, reported on the result on Tuesday at the request of our newspaper.

In the short term, i.e. in the coming weeks, the District Office will order a ban on overtaking and Tempo 70 for this sub-area.

A solid line is drawn on and two 70s signs are attached - for example in the area where the “Attention, cyclists” signs are already displayed.

In the medium term, according to Scheckinger “as soon as possible next year”, a traffic island that is illuminated at night is to be built at the level of the transition in the middle of the state road.

Because the road has to be widened and property issues and nature conservation issues have to be clarified beforehand, this measure takes longer.

Other possible solutions were discussed in the round, but rejected, reports the road construction manager.

From the point of view of the police, a traffic light on the open road is too unsafe for pedestrians and cyclists as well as for drivers.

There is a risk of rear-end collisions.

Experience has shown that drivers quickly ignore a continuous speed limit on the entire route after a while.

They also provoke overtaking maneuvers.

Finally, relocating the cyclist crossing in the direction of the cemetery intersection or the Tattenkofener bridge would “probably not be accepted”.
