The Ministry of Culture announced the names of the winners of the first national competition for young people on the violin, during a ceremony hosted by the multi-purpose hall of the Opera House.

The first place went to the young Firas Harb, who presented a short musical piece that won the admiration of the audience, while the second place went to Gad Ibrahim.

The competition committee was formed from Maestro Raad Khalaf and musicians Al-Muthanna Ali and Razan Qassab, coordinated by Maestro Adnan Fathallah.

In a statement to reporters, Minister of Culture Dr. Lubana Mushawah indicated that the competition is the fourth for playing instruments, which included piano, lute, qanun, wind instruments and violin, noting the potential of the two young winners who have remarkable talent through the competition's programs, even though they are equivalent to what is found in major music institutes in the world.

Minister Mashouh stressed that music is the language of peoples and humanity, and through it we can say what we want in the finest style, calling on families to encourage their children to music and arts in addition to their studies, especially with all the possibilities to support them.

Musician Razan Qassab, a violin professor at the Higher Institute of Music and the Salhi Valley Institute, confirmed that the program chosen for the competition is of an international nature, noting that the committee was surprised by the level shown by the applicants, hoping to develop the competition in the coming years.

Maestro Raad Khalaf considered that it is necessary that this competition be of a character that competes with international levels because we have confidence in the talents we possess capable of providing our academic institutions with high cadres and capabilities.

The young man, Firas Harb, winner of the first place, stated that the training lasted for four months under the supervision of Dr. Nassib Marwan, and the first stage was via video and the Internet, expressing his ambition to reach the world and raise the flag of Syria in international forums.
