Sauerlach - With the Fahrrad Fatschinger shop in Sauerlach, the post office in the center of the town is also disappearing.

A successor is being sought.

To be honest, who else writes them, the classic letters and postcards?

Too few!

Because with the smartphone it has become much easier to send a message even with a photo or to quickly send an email to friends abroad.

This is noticeable because more and more post offices are closing - now also in Sauerlach.

City council member Michaela Haas (Greens) had noticed this and addressed it to Mayor Barbara Bogner at the latest meeting of the council.

This confirmed that the Deutsche Post branch in the Sauerlach center will soon have to close.

Bicycle shop Fatschinger goes out of business

The main reason for this is that the Fatschinger bicycle shop is giving up its business there.

“They have helped run the Post up to now,” explained Barbara Bogner.

However, there were economic reasons why the post office could not continue to exist on its own.

“The company is paid so badly that an independent branch is simply not worthwhile.

Not even a personnel position is paid for with it, ”the town hall chief explained the problem.

Therefore, a post office must always run parallel to an existing retail business so that it is financially viable at all.

Barbara Bogner said she had already checked out all the shops in town personally.

Only two have expressed interest.

However, one shopkeeper had already received a refusal, the second would not have answered.

Digitization of many processes

Michaela Haas, who works as an administrative clerk at the AWO senior citizens' center in Sauerlach, was particularly concerned about the elderly: "That will be a problem, because they cannot use smartphones or send e-mails." currently no solution, said the mayor.

As an emergency solution, Deutsche Post machines would probably be set up in the village.

For the mayor, the fact that more and more post and bank branches are closing is only a logical consequence due to the advanced digitization of many processes.

“It's all our own fault.

If we want to join the digital, everything closes one after the other, ”she made clear.

However, the administration should once again ask the shopkeepers in town about the parallel operation of a post office.
