Starnberg -

How are the negotiations between the railways and the city about the so-called sea connection going? Or more specifically: What will become of the ailing See train station? Are the tracks being laid? If so, where? Questions like this are discussed in secret monthly meetings at the request of the Deutsche Bahn. This was reported by WPS city councilor Maximilian Ardelt, who is a member of the city negotiating team, at the meeting of the citizens' association “Schöner zum See”. He did not give details, but he said a little: "The talks are going amazingly constructive." The objections of the citizens' association, of which Ardelt was chairman until Tuesday evening, would be taken into account - with regard to the lake view, the platforms and the siding. Ardelt emphasized several times how much it bothers him that the talks do not take place in public. He does not expect an agreement between the city and the railways or at least results "not before the middle or end of 2022".

Club members and interested parties, around 20 in total, met at a suitable location. While they were talking about the future of the area around the station in the beach café, the trains rattled past outside. The rumble was clearly noticeable inside.

A nicer, larger promenade, a reduction in the track system and the train station as an attractive, central square in the city: these are the goals of “Schöner zum See”.

"We have been on it for 20 years," emphasized Ardelt.

The 81-year-old now gave up the office of chairman "for health reasons" to the former FDP councilor Iris Ziebart.

Otherwise, the board will remain the same after the new elections - with Vice Dr.

Günther Krawitz, Secretary Michael Schildbach and Treasurer Thomas Ammerschläger.

Ardelt will still be involved in the newly founded informal advisory body, as will the former WPS city councilor Markus Mooser and Bernd Stecher, who is also the association's auditor.

Many examples of how train stations can be used sensibly

Andreas Keller was invited to the general meeting. The urban planner, architect and government master builder headed the urban development department in the Bavarian Ministry of Construction, Housing and Transport until 2020. He is now retired, but still sits on a number of advisory boards. Vice-chairman Krawitz was so enthusiastic about Keller's lecture that he wanted to win him over as an honorary member. Keller had clearly shown how and where time-honored station buildings are used sensibly. For example in Altötting, where space has been created for clubs and living space and Bahnhofstrasse and all entrances are barrier-free. Keller called the Feldafing building on the tracks with the town hall, citizens' hall and café “a very successful project”.

In the meantime, he had suspected “art in construction” in Starnberg, the Gautinger joked with reference to the pillars without a roof that caused great excitement at the See train station.

When asked about the ideal solution for redesigning, Keller emphasized: "An architecture competition would not be bad - but you also have to know what you want." A city has to tell the planners whether it wants a department store, a museum or something else.

In Starnberg there are old resolutions for a "culture station".

In any case, the city in the vicinity of the train station can rely on state financial support.

Expert Keller: "This is a classic funding item."
