There is currently an unusual sight in Denklingen: the tower is scaffolded on all three churches in the village, and on the large parish church, the facade of the wide nave.

Denklingen

- Almost at the same time, the hail damage caused by the bad weather on Whit Monday in 2019 will be repaired at the churches in Denklingen in autumn. The 34 meter high tower is scaffolded at the parish church of St. Michael. In some cases, damaged roof panels also had to be replaced, reports church caretaker Norbert Hitzelberger. After the storm a good two years ago, the plaster had crumbled in many places, so strong were the hailstones.

At that time the storm moved from the central Ostallgäu via Denklingen and over the Lech to the Ammersee.

The damage caused by the hail was considerable: houses in Denklingen and Reichling were also damaged, numerous trees were uprooted and the street lighting was broken.

In contrast, neither in Landsberg nor in Schongau had anything worse happened.

So it was a real swath in which the storm was raging.

As church clerk Hitzelberger looks ahead, the aim is to complete the work on the parish church of St. Michael before the onset of winter.

Two different painting companies were commissioned by the diocese of Augsburg.

Measures at the three houses of God were initiated last year.

The costs are roughly estimated at 200,000 euros.

In 2019, Denklingen was in the middle of the storm aisle

The renovation of the 20 meter high tower at the Osteraufkirche, located between Denklingen and Dienhausen, is almost finished.

The fact that it stands below a ridge did not provide any protection in the bad weather on Whit Monday 2019.

On the contrary: Hundreds of trees have been uprooted on the slope nearby.

According to Hitzelberger, work on the Antonius Chapel has been completed. There the scaffolding was erected the fastest compared to the other two churches. It has a slender, dainty onion dome on the west facade, which measures almost 20 meters. The Antonius Chapel is located in Denklingen in the middle of a junction where the road from Leeder to Epfach and the road from Schwabsoien to the Hirschvogel company and the B17 meet. In the past there were only streets around the gem. Since the Bahnhofstrasse and Leederer Strasse were expanded, the traffic routing has changed. This means that there is a place to linger north of the Antonius Chapel.

The Denklingen Church Foundation is responsible for a total of four churches.

This also includes the church of St. Mang in Dienhausen.

There the storm in 2019 did not cause any major damage, although it was very close to Denklingen.
