It is with amazement that the students of Jean-Jaurès elementary school in Drancy and their parents risk discovering their establishment this Thursday morning.
During the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, the premises were the target of an arson attack which destroyed two classrooms and rendered two others unusable.
According to the office of Mayor Aude Lagarde (UDI), it was police officers from the anti-crime squad who, while crisscrossing the neighborhood around 11:30 p.m., saw smoke coming out of the building.
They then alerted the firefighters who managed to contain the fire.
In a press release published on Wednesday, the elected official said she was "outraged by this heinous act".
"When school is attacked, it is our children and it is the Republic who are attacked," she wrote, announcing that she had lodged a complaint.
School is the place for all learning, the place where we build equal opportunities and fraternity between future citizens.
No motivation can justify a crime of this type.
"
Aude Lagarde will be present this Thursday morning in front of the gates of the establishment, which brings together 263 students, to reassure parents.
All schoolchildren can be accommodated in class.
“The establishment, which is classified as a priority education network, has double CP and CE1 classes.
They will therefore be grouped together at least until the All Saints holidays which begin this Friday to allow all the students to be welcomed, ”underlines the Academic Directorate, which strongly condemns this fire.
According to the office of the mayor of Drancy, the criminal trail is beyond doubt.
Traces of burglary and hydrocarbons were found on site.
