The British band Duran Duran, one of the most successful bands from the eighties, is releasing a new album tomorrow (Friday) called "Future Past" and is celebrating 40 years of activity.

The band released their first album in June 1981, and it included one of their biggest hits, "Girls on Film".

During the eighties she released a number of other successful hits, including "Rio", "Hungry Like the Wolf" and the theme song from the 1985 James Bond film "Murder in the Eyes" (the latter starring Roger Moore as Agent 007).

During those years, the band won two Grammy Awards in the video clip category, selling more than 100 million copies of its albums.

In 1986, two members of the original band left, drummer Roger Taylor and guitarist Andy Taylor, and after a decline in the band's activity, in 1993 came the comeback with the album "Wedding Album", from which came the songs "Ordinary World" and "Come Undone".

Following this, the band embarked on its largest world tour, which also included its first performance in Israel in 1994.

In the 2000s there was again a decline in the band's success, despite attempts to reinvent themselves with the help of music producers like Justin Timberlake, Timberland and hip hop producer Dallas Austin.

The new album, which will be released this weekend, is Duran Duran's 15th, and the first in six years.

He has been at work since 2018, and in fact his departure has been delayed by a year due to the corona.

In announcing the new album, lead singer Simon Le Bon said: "When we first entered the studio, I tried to convince the guys that all we had to do was write two or three new tracks for the EP (mini-album; usually).

Then, four days later, we already had 25 strong songs.

So there is something to work with in the long run. "

The album was produced by the band with veteran Italian dance composer Giorgio Moroder and successful British producer Mark Ronson.

On the occasion of the launch of the album tomorrow, a new clip called "Anniversary" will also be released to mark 40 years of Duran Duran's activity.

In an interview with Variety magazine last week, keyboardist Nick Rhodes, who formed the band with bassist John Taylor, recalled the band's big break in the Eighties.

"When I was 14 I had David Bowie posters on the wall in the room, and then at 19 I started hanging out with him. It was weird, but I was grateful to have such a creative and inspiring friend. Invite hundreds of people, and we could not call the police to accompany us.It became ridiculous.

"We started as an artistic cult ensemble, and suddenly we perform in front of 15,000 roaring girls. It was a culture shock. It confused me and made it hard for me. I remember watching archive footage of the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and the rapist, who managed to stay creative with fame, and it helped us. "Not that I compare us to them. The ones who have benefited the most are young boys who have come to our shows to catch a girl."
