The mayor of Palermo Leoluca Orlando and 23 former councilors, managers and municipal area heads are under investigation for forgery in the municipal budgets

According to what the newspaper La Repubblica writes, all of them were notified of the conclusion of the investigation;
the accusation contested by the Palermo prosecutor's office is "false material committed by a public official in a public act".
The investigations of the economic and financial police unit of the Guardia di Finanza of Palermo, would have ascertained numerous irregularities in the financial statements of four years, from 2016 to 2019.
The investigations were conducted by the deputy prosecutors Andrea Fusco, Giulia Beux and the deputy prosecutor Sergio Demontis. The magistrates write in the provision: "The public officials signed and sent to the General Accounting Office some overestimated revenue forecast forms (taking into account the data - known to them - of the actual assessments of revenue in previous years) thus misleading the council municipal of Palermo on the truth of the deed, determining it to adopt the resolution with which the budget was approved ". One chapter of the accusations concerns the budgets, another the management reports. In Orlando, a directive dated June 18, 2018 is also contested "for having in a public deed authentic up to a complaint of forgery ...exposed false data and in particular reported credits to be recognized / settled by the Municipality towards the investee companies lower than the real ones ".
