Fraudsters have captured a total of around a quarter of a million euros in gold and jewelry with so-called shock calls to two senior citizens in Hamburg.
The police said on Thursday that they had explained to the two 93 and 92-year-old victims from Groß Flottbek and Poppenbüttel on the phone that their grandchildren had caused a fatal traffic accident and could only be released from custody with a high bail.
Hamburg - In both cases, the women finally believed the perpetrators and handed them jewelry and gold coins worth 100,000 and 150,000 euros respectively on Wednesday.
According to the police, there are currently more and more shock calls in Hamburg that are particularly perfidious "because the perpetrators confront their victims with an emotionally stressful situation".
In the first nine months of this year, the police became aware of 207 cases.
In 8 cases the perpetrators succeeded in stealing prey.
