Fill up the tank in the neighboring country to the brim and also fill the reserve canister?

That is allowed - but under certain conditions.

Munich - The fuel prices are rising.

The temptation to refuel in neighboring countries as well.

In many of them, the fuel is even cheaper.

Filling a reserve canister next to the tank when shopping there is generally allowed.

But there are regulations for "tank tourism".

To read, for example, on the website of the German customs.

As a private person, you can bring fuel from another EU country to Germany for your own use.

However, it is important to note that the fuel must have been taxed in the member state, so make sure you keep the petrol station receipt (it can only be purchased there, by the way).

If you get caught, you have to pay the energy tax.

"Tank tourism" with canisters is allowed within the EU - but maximum quantities apply

Now to the most interesting question: How much fuel can you take with you in canisters from other EU countries?

Up to 20 liters in reserve containers are "not objected to", informs customs.

That is the upper limit.

For safety reasons, however, it is advisable to never take more than 10 liters with you, warns the ADAC.

The experts from the German Automobile Club already listed the maximum quantities in 2019.

A trip to Poland is most likely to be “worth it”.

Here the maximum amount is 20 liters.

Switzerland with 25 liters is likely to be excluded because of the customs regulations.

According to ADAC, there are 10 liters in the neighboring countries of Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Austria and the Czech Republic.

Luxembourg does not allow fuel transport.

Fuel price high in Germany: ADAC expert still sees scope

Diesel has become more expensive after its all-time high in Germany, as the ADAC announced.

On October 19, the nationwide daily average of 1.560 euros per liter was due.

Fuel prices are being driven up by the oil price in particular.

In the case of diesel there is also a seasonal effect.

The strong demand for heating oil in the autumn causes the price to rise even further.

ADAC fuel market expert Jürgen Albrecht, however, sees scope for price reductions in the mineral oil industry.

Compared to last year, the current level at the pumps cannot be explained solely by the increased oil price and the new CO2 levy that has been introduced since the beginning, he said.

"If consumers use their market power even more consciously, they could definitely achieve something here," he told the dpa.
