The assessment of the examination committee was positive.

Graefelfing -

"I am very happy about this award," says Mayor Peter Köstler.

“We have done a lot to increase the attractiveness of cycling in Graefelfing through very specific measures.

The award will be an incentive for us to continue on this path towards a strong cooperation between all road users. "

Six years ago, the municipality of Graefelfing applied as an aspirant to the working group for bicycle-friendly municipalities in Bavaria (AGFK).

Before the jump to full membership, there is the so-called main trip with an examination of the municipality, which takes a whole day.

A commission determines whether the municipality has done its homework in promoting cycling since accession.

The meeting in Graefelfing attracted many official guests, above all Kerstin Schreyer, State Minister for Housing, Building and Transport, two ministerial officials, Markus Büchler (Member of the Bundestag, Greens), representatives of the ADFC, the police, the state building authority and the municipality of Graefelfing with Mayor Peter Köstler and the cycle traffic working group headed by 3rd Mayor Martin Feldner.

After examining documents, a presentation by Roland Strecker, the municipality's bicycle traffic officer, and preliminary talks in the morning at the town hall, a visit and on-site examination took place in the afternoon - by bike, of course Decision: Graefelfing is officially declared a bicycle-friendly municipality and will probably receive the award on January 27th together with other municipalities in Munich. However, the municipality still has to meet three more formal conditions. For example, Graefelfing spends much more than the minimum amount per inhabitant and year on promoting cycling at EUR 500,000, but there was no more precise breakdown.

The certification, which the neighboring municipality of Planegg already has, is valid for seven years, after which a re-certification is pending. For this - that's already certain - Graefelfing still has to deal with a whole series of long-term tasks. For example, the municipal council has to make a decision in principle to promote cycling with a formulated objective in terms of growth per year. There must be a cycle traffic concept, which is intended as a sub-chapter of the overall traffic concept that is currently being worked on. The attempt at a bicycle parking statute, which had already failed once in the municipal council, should be renewed - as was the application to set up a bicycle street.

The test drive through the town touched on the latest structural measures to improve bicycle traffic, for example at the roundabouts in Lochhamer Straße.

According to Martin Feldner, the most painful deficits became apparent on the state roads in the village - and thus outside of municipal jurisdiction: in the opinion of the experts, the major intersections at the electric store and on Pasinger- / Bahnhof- / Würmtal- and Planegger Straße urgently need a traffic-related one Reorganization and improvement for cyclists.

It's good that among the many officials, Stephan Gruber, a representative of the responsible state building authority in Freising, was also on site.
