Etting - Finally: At the beginning of the week, construction work on the new Etting fire station began.

The municipality of Polling had planned the project for a long time.

“The negotiations were not that easy,” admitted Mayor Martin Pape at the official groundbreaking ceremony.

Initial considerations regarding a replacement building for the old fire-fighting equipment house, which was built in 1976 and no longer meets modern standards, had already been made during the term of office of former mayor Dominikus Weiß (1990 to 2008). But the project was anything but a sure-fire success: on the one hand there were the costs and on the other hand the topographically cramped conditions in the Pollingen district of Etting. Ultimately, the turning point between Bachstrasse and “Am Sportplatz” emerged as the location. Because the area was previously used as a gravel pit and later as a household waste dump, the decision was made to build a pile structure without a basement.

"I am pleased that we are finally ready," said District Fire Chief Rüdiger Sobotta in his welcoming address. “It's been a long time. I drilled into three mayors. ”The new building will convey a“ beautiful look ”. The focus is of course on the functionality of the building.

Architect Peter Haberecht (office “B3 Architects Penzberg”) planned the fire brigade buildings in such a way that, together with the existing barn of the hunting association, they would result in a rural triangular courtyard. The core of the new building is the main building with a gable roof, which is accessed from the north via the inner courtyard. On the ground floor, next to the vehicle hall, space is planned for changing rooms, toilets and the black and white separation area. A commandant's office, a training room and a parlor equipped with a kitchen are to be set up on the upper floor. The cost is just over three million euros. The new fire station should be ready by the end of 2022. According to Haberecht, it was an architectural challenge to “get the most out of a small area”.

In his "groundbreaking speech", Pape emphasized that the new building was not a luxury for the fire brigade, nor were the Florians disciples the "needy".

Ultimately, the citizens who build and manage buildings and the local area would create potential hazards.

“That determines the necessity for the construction of the fire station,” says Pape.

Commandant Andreas Kraus outlined the social and structural significance of the project.

The fire station is a "clear sign" to the Ettingen youth that things are going well with the fire department in the district.
