Secretary for Transport and Housing, Chen Fan, in a written response to a question from the Legislative Council yesterday (20th), revealed that as of the end of August this year, about 3,400 complaints or reports about uneven road surfaces have been received. Among them, Kwai Tsing District has the largest number with 367 cases. There have been about 60 more cases than last year.
The budget for road maintenance this year is as high as 1.65 billion yuan.
Chief Engineer of Highways Department (New Territories East) Pang Chi-chiu responded to the RTHK program this morning (21st) that although the number in Kwai Tsing District has increased, the decrease in Yuen Long District is related to the inclement weather and the number of public feedback.
He also pointed out that if the Highways Department receives complaints from the public, it will dispatch staff within 48 hours and request the contractor to complete the repairs.
If the traffic is heavy and large-scale repairs are not possible, temporary materials will be used to fill the potholes.
