The business climate indicator continues to rise in October.

After a first improvement in September, it "

returns to the particularly high level of June 2021

", indicates the INSEE.

Calculated from the responses of business leaders from the main commercial activity sectors, it gained 2 points this month, and stood at 113. It thus remains higher than its pre-crisis value (106) but also at its long-term average (100).

This improvement is notably driven by an improvement in services, the indicator increasing by 4 points compared to September in this sector.

The business leaders questioned say they are more optimistic about their outlook for activity and demand.

Retail trade also saw a slight improvement (+1).

Tensions on supply in industry and construction

In industry, the indicator remains stable: "

balances of opinion relating to production, both past and forecast, are weakening in a context of strong supply constraints

".

Finally, the building sector and the only sector to experience a decrease (-1), remaining however at a high level (111) and this despite the tensions on the productive apparatus.

On the employment side, confidence is also in order.

The employment climate rebounded sharply in October (+5 points), reaching 111. It remains “

well above its long-term average (100) and reached its highest level since June 2011

”.

The increase is particularly driven by the balances of opinion on the past evolution of employment in services other than temporary work agencies and by the increase in the balance on the workforce planned for temporary work.
