It's tomorrow.

From 2025, Jaguar will only offer electric models.

Until then, the English manufacturer is stepping up initiatives to reduce the carbon footprint of its current range.

The large F-Pace SUV is thus enriched with a plug-in hybrid version borrowing its technology from the Range Rover P400e.

To pass under the radar of a punitive tax, it is based on the downsizing of the heat engine, in this case the 4-cylinder turbo gasoline house which still delivers 300 horsepower.

With the help of a 143 hp electric motor installed at the front in the 8-speed automatic gearbox, the F-Pace P400e equals a 6-cylinder, delivering 404 hp and a comfortable torque of 640 Nm. .

Jaguar

A 17.1 kWh battery

Unlike its aristocrat cousin whose battery does not exceed 13.1 kWh, here, the second generation system is distinguished by notable developments.

The maximum capacity of the accumulators is increased to 17.1 kWh (13.7 kWh usable), which translates into an electric range of 53 km, in the best case.

Result: according to the homologation protocol, consumption is only 2.2 l / 100 km, or CO2 emissions of only 49 g / km.

In real life, consumption can skyrocket if you travel on expressways and the motorway.

The on-board computer of our test vehicle indicated 10.4 l / 100 km out of 4,172 km traveled.

Jaguar

Over this long distance, the F-Pace had nevertheless circulated 10% of its time without emitting carbon or pollutants.

With the rechargeable battery, it's always the same story, you have to recharge as often as possible.

On a fast terminal (power of 32 kW), the battery recovers 80% in 30 minutes.

On a 7 kW wallbox, the wait will be 1 hour 40 minutes (for a 30.5 km radius of action) and on a domestic socket, it will take 5 hours 30 minutes, provided you have the Mode 2 cable that Jaguar invoice 353 euros.

Thanks to the extra electricity, acceleration (5.3 seconds to reach 100 km / h) and times are at the level of a V6.

In use, however, the exchanges of energy and rhythm are not without jerks.

An amputated chest

Jaguar

The P400e turns flat but it is not as dynamic as its brothers, the consequence of a mass of around 2.2 tonnes!

Likewise, the gear lever is not very docile and you sometimes have to do it twice to shift into reverse.

The battery placed under the boot floor amputates the 13-liter fuel tank and the space under the shelf, and excludes the spare wheel and the boot rails.

These drawbacks are largely offset by the inimitable refined interior ambience and the new infotainment system based on a central 11.4-inch screen.

Without competition at this power level, the F-Pace P400e is priced at € 72,290.
