Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin today signed a decree imposing a ten-day closure in Moscow to confront the new wave of the Corona virus.

The Russia Today website quoted the decree that "the epidemiological situation in Moscow is developing according to the worst scenario, and that in the coming days the city may reach a historical peak in the rates of corona infection."

The decree declared that the period between the 28th of October and the 7th of next November will be official holidays, during which the work of all institutions and organizations in the city will be suspended, with the exception of a limited number of vital organizations.

The suspension also includes the work of institutions and organizations in the field of trade, services, catering, sports, culture, entertainment, movie shows and others, except for the sale of medicines, food and other basic commodities, with restaurants and cafes continuing to deliver ready-made meals.

During the aforementioned period, a holiday is announced in kindergartens and schools, and the activity of any courses and workshops for children will stop, while vocational and higher education institutions are allowed to continue study activities remotely only.

Yesterday, Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to impose an official holiday extending from October 30 to November 7, with pay, against the backdrop of the high number of Corona victims in the country.
