Today, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Faisal Miqdad, received the credentials of Emmanuel Calenzi, responsible for coordinating projects of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in Syria.
Talks during the meeting focused on enhancing cooperation between Syria and the organization by expanding the activities and projects carried out by the organization in Syria in the fields of aid, technical support and capacity building.
Minister Miqdad stressed that Syria is open to deepening cooperation and increasing the organization's involvement in projects aimed at achieving industrial development, supporting the economy and recovery efforts in Syria.
Mikdad stressed that the unilateral economic measures imposed on the Syrian people have no basis in international law and aim to harm the Syrian people and obstruct development and lead to impeding national and United Nations efforts to revive national economies and international development.
For his part, the representative of UNIDO affirmed the organization’s interest in continuing to work and cooperate with the Syrian government in a way that contributes to improving the lives of citizens and early recovery efforts, and expressed his aspirations to launch several new projects that respond to the needs of the Syrian people in all areas covered by the organization’s mandate in cooperation with other United Nations agencies and concerned parties in the Syrian government .
