More than 160 people were killed in floods and landslides that swept India and Nepal in the past days.
"The state was one of the worst-hit areas, with 48 deaths," Reuters quoted SA Murugsan, an official in the disaster management department in northern India's Uttarakhand state.
In the tourist area of Nainital in Uttarakhand, the town's lake overflowed, flooding the main road and damaging bridges and railways.
As for Kerala, in southern India, about 42 people died last week as a result of the floods that also killed at least 77 people in Nepal.
A previous toll indicated that 116 people were killed as a result of the floods caused by the annual monsoon rains, which usually last from January to September of each year.
