A Russian health official announced today the discovery of individual cases of the mutated “AY4 2” mutation of the mutated Delta strain of the Corona virus in Russia.
And the Russia Today website quoted the head of the team developing new methods for diagnosing human diseases at the Russian Institute of Epidemiology, Kamil Hafezov, as saying that "the possibility of a large-scale spread of the new mutant in Russia and the world is very high, and it is not excluded that this type will cause an additional increase in HIV infections."
Hafezov indicated that the vaccines used in Russia are very effective against the "AY4 2" mutant, because this mutant does not differ from its counterparts to the extent that it can drastically affect its ability to bind to antibodies.
And British Health Minister Sajid Javid had previously announced the spread of the AY4 2 mutant of the Delta strain in Britain, at a time when British scientists warned that the new mutant may be 10 to 15 percent more transmissible than the original Delta strain.
