The public prosecutor's office is investigating a nun on suspicion of sexual abuse of a boy in Speyer.
The woman has so far not provided any information and has hired a lawyer, said a spokesman for the Frankenthal public prosecutor's office on Thursday.
She is said to have abused the boy about once a month in the children's home in Speyer between 1994 and 1997.
Speyer - The boy is said to have been around nine years old when the first act was committed.
The “Mannheimer Morgen” had previously reported on it.
The alleged victim had raised the allegations this year in a letter to the diocese of Speyer.
The diocese forwarded the letter to the public prosecutor's office in the spring.
There it was first checked whether the specified incidents could be statute-barred.
"The preliminary investigation was initiated this month," said the spokesman.
The files have been very thin so far, the investigators hoped for more information from the police interrogation of the now 36-year-old.
The authority did not give the exact age of the nun for reasons of privacy protection, she was "under 70 years old," said the spokesman.
