Penzberg

- At the moment there is a lot of talk about climate protection as well as financial and tax policy, according to the letter that Monika Uhl, the chairwoman of “Pro Innenstadt” from Penzberg, wrote.

The action group downtown appeals to the members of the Bundestag from the region not to forget the concerns of the local centers.

Specifically, the introduction of a package tax for online retailers and a continuation of the urban development programs at at least the previous level are required.

The letter was sent to MPs Alexander Dobrindt and Alexander Radwan (both CSU) and Karl Bär (Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen).

"Inner cities are the social center of every city"

"Our inner cities are more than just a space for the supply of everyday goods - they are rather the social center of every city," writes Uhl.

For decades, structures with shops, cafés and restaurants that stand for quality of life have been formed in the city centers.

This quality of life has already been put on hold for a long time twice as a result of the lockdowns - with the well-known consequences: "Considerable financial problems for retailers and restaurateurs, which in many places resulted in business tasks," says Uhl.

To make matters worse, online retail experienced a massive boom during the lockdown, which was at the expense of inner-city retail.

City centers are to be made more attractive

With the income generated from the introduction of the package tax for online retailers, the attractiveness of inner cities and town centers should be financed through cultural offers, for example, and thus their competitiveness should be strengthened, according to the letter.

In addition, the action group asks to increase the funds for urban development as far as possible, but not to reduce them in order to keep the local centers as the center of social life.

A possible reduction is rejected.
