Police said that officers of the West Kowloon Tactical Unit stopped a suspicious man and seized an arc lighter on his body during a patrol at the junction of Parkes Street and Ningbo Street at about 1:15 am today (21st). (Police refer to it as a "fire-type stun gun"), the police officers arrested the 52-year-old local man for "unlicensed possession of firearms".
The arrested man is currently being detained for investigation.
The arc lighter is mainly a rechargeable lighter. Its appearance is no different from an ordinary lighter. It is legally owned and used in foreign countries and even in the mainland.
However, because this type of lighter generates an arc to ignite the cigarette, it is not easy to be "blown out".
However, this part is considered to be similar to the "stun gun", so it is illegal in Hong Kong.
There have been many similar cases earlier, and some merchants selling arc lighters have accidentally fallen to the French Open. In addition, they are also fairly easy to buy through mainland shopping websites that are popular with Hong Kong people.
According to the Firearms and Ammunition Ordinance, possession of firearms or ammunition without a license, upon conviction, can be fined up to 100,000 yuan and imprisonment for 14 years; while operating firearms or ammunition without a license is punishable by a fine of 100,000 yuan and imprisonment for 10 years.
It can be easily purchased on the mainland website.
