After an incident at a nuclear power plant in southern Russia, a reactor block was taken offline for maintenance work.
In the power plant around 120 kilometers from the city of Rostov-on-Don, steam is said to have escaped from a defective pipe on Thursday night.
The operator Rosenergoatom announced this on the Telegram social network.
However, the pipe is part of a power plant system in which no radioactive water flows.
The second reactor block had to be shut down temporarily, as the necessary repairs would not be possible as long as the technology was heated.
The Rostov nuclear power plant consists of a total of four blocks and has been in operation since 2001.
In addition to the part that has now been switched off, another block has been serviced since September, according to the operator.
The other two blocks are therefore in operation as planned.
