Kochel am See

- Before calm returned to the Kesselberg on Thursday with the windy autumn weather, the notorious motorcycle route went around again on Wednesday.

The sad climax at the season finale was a serious accident in the early evening in which a 16-year-old broke several bones.

Yamaha rider (16) crashes on the Kesselberg and crashes against a rock face

According to witnesses, the police reported that a mishap on the part of the novice driver was the cause of the accident.

The young Ebersberger drove downhill on the B11 at around 6 p.m.

When driving through a sharp left turn - it is also known as the “applause curve” - he provided support with his Yamaha light motorcycle.

He was then thrown backwards against a rock face and seriously injured.

According to the police, first aiders took care of the young people and securing the scene of the accident professionally until the rescue workers arrived.

A rescue helicopter brought the 16-year-old to the accident clinic in Murnau.

The Kochel fire brigade closed the road completely for the duration of the accident record.

The damage to the Yamaha is estimated at around 3000 euros.

Shortly before the end of the season: Large crowds of motorcyclists on the Kesselberg

As reported, it was not the only Kesselberg accident on Wednesday. Almost three hours earlier, a 19-year-old from the Dachau district fell on the serpentine route because he was traveling too fast to be able to react to an oil trail. He was slightly injured. Not directly on the Kesselberg, but a little further on the B11 at the Kirchelwandtunnel between Urfeld and the town of Walchensee, a car collided with a Harley-Davidson driver while overtaking.

Nevertheless, police chief inspector Frank Bentz from the Kochel am See police station says: "For how much was going on on Wednesday, the day actually ended lightly, and you have to be happy that nothing more happened." That numerous motorcyclists made their way again to the Kesselberg was foreseeable for Bentz and his colleagues.

The majority of bikers have seasonal license plates that expire at the end of October.

So many saw on the sunny Wednesday possibly the last opportunity for this year to curve over the serpentine route.

Many motorists complain about motorcycles on the Kesselberg

The law enforcement officers had prepared accordingly: the Weilheim traffic police and the motorcycle control group posted themselves once more on the route and imposed fines for technical manipulation, worn tires, overtaking violations and misuse of license plates.

However, the presence of the officers did not prevent some of the motorcyclists from "driving risky", as Bentz reports.

Even when the police led the traffic past the fallen motorcyclist in one lane in the afternoon, "we were almost knocked over once," he says.

The driver in question was then stopped.

Before that, the Kochler police had already received a number of complaints on Wednesday.

Other road users complained about the high number of motorcyclists and sometimes about their driving style.

Sneakers lying on the street can also be a risk

Bentz points out that the drivers should actually not only drive at an accident site, but in any confusing area in such a way that they can stop safely at any time. The maximum speed of 60 kilometers per hour should be used "only under the most favorable circumstances". The oil trail that brought the 19-year-old down is just one of many possible unexpected obstacles that could be particularly dangerous for motorcyclists. “The Kesselbergstrasse is very busy, it leaves its mark,” emphasizes Bentz. On the one hand, this could make the road more slippery, and on the other hand, cars repeatedly lost either operating materials, vehicle parts or parts of the load. “The other day we had sneakers on the street that had fallen off a car's roof. This can also be fatal for a motorcyclist,if he doesn't see her beforehand. "

How the accident record for this season on the Kesselberg turns out in numbers will only be evaluated in a few weeks.

According to Bentz, it tended to be quieter in the rainy summer, but it was more round in autumn.
