Schlehdorf

- The community Schlehdorf wants to increase their dog tax.

The municipal council unanimously passed a corresponding decision in principle at its most recent meeting.

As Mayor Stefan Jocher stated in advance, the tax in the small monastery was last increased around 15 years ago.

The first dog currently costs 40 euros, the second dog 80 euros and each additional animal 120 euros per year in dog tax.

It costs taxpayers 10,000 euros to empty the dog toilets and to buy and dispose of the bags

So far, no tax rate has been set for attack dogs. “We don't currently have a fighting dog,” said Jocher, who emphasized that Schlehdorf was still “at the bottom” in the district with these tax rates. Currently, the dog tax leads to a total income of almost 3000 euros per year, the mayor continues. In return, the community would incur expenses as a result of emptying the eight dog toilets in the community area twice a week and disposing of this garbage as well as buying the dog waste bags. "The fun costs taxpayers around 10,000 euros a year," said Jocher. His municipality needs around 20,000 dog waste bags per year - and Jocher emphasized that these bags are also used by many foreign dog owners who take their animals for a walk around Schlehdorf. But in view of the expenses, the mayor was clearly in favor of increasing the dog tax. Especially since the neighboring municipality of Kochel recently “increased extremely” this tax (we reported).

For many, dogs are "an important companion for life" - so there is no major increase in tax

Jocher did not want to increase the tax in Schlehdorf as much as Kochel did. Because there are people for whom their dog is an “important companion in life”. It is important to show consideration for these people. In the future, the first dog will cost 60 euros per year, the second dog 120 euros per year and each additional animal 240 euros per year in taxes. Nevertheless, these new prices are not "cost-covering", says Jocher. But that is not justified for him either. After all, many non-residents would also use the dog toilets. A tax rate of 2,000 euros per year is set for attack dogs - "as a deterrent," as Jocher said. Until the next council meeting, the administration should revise the existing dog tax statute accordingly. Then the parish council would like to decide on it.
