Thuringia's Environment Minister Anja Siegesmund (Greens) has campaigned in the Thuringian state parliament for the further expansion of renewable energies.
The aim is to supply Thuringia entirely from renewable energies by 2040.
"100 percent renewables are possible, they are necessary," said Siegesmund on Thursday in the Thuringian state parliament.
The reason for the debate was a motion from the AfD parliamentary group calling for a moratorium on the construction of wind turbines.
Erfurt - Siegesmund described the application as anti-technology, illegal, populist and superfluous.
The AfD parliamentary group's concern did not reach a majority.
Siegesmund pointed out that 62 percent of electricity consumption in Thuringia comes from renewable energies that are produced in the Free State itself.
"That puts us at the top nationwide," said Siegesmund.
