It is a difficult self-discovery process: There is also unrest in the Southwest CDU because of the disaster in the federal election - and calls for staff renewals.

Before the party congress, the leadership tries to let the pressure out of the kettle by involving the grassroots.

Stuttgart - After the historical losses in the state and federal elections, the top of the Southwest CDU wants to come out of the crisis with the help of the grassroots.

The state executive set up a commission to reorganize the party, in which around 60 members from all parts of the CDU are to participate.

The German press agency found out about this from participants in Stuttgart late on Wednesday evening.

While the federal government is still discussing the way out of the leadership crisis, the regional association is going ahead, it said.

Will someone play against Strobl?

The decision of the executive committee comes a few weeks before the party congress on November 13th in Mannheim, at which the new leadership will be elected.

Because of the heavy losses in the elections, there are also calls for a renewal at the top in the Southwest CDU.

State chief and federal vice-president Thomas Strobl does not want to officially comment on a new candidacy until shortly before the party congress.

However, it is expected that the 61-year-old Minister of the Interior will apply again.

Whether someone will compete against him is still open.

Secretary-General is to lead the commission

According to the decision of the state board, each district association should send one member to the commission.

In addition, the other associations, district associations, the parliamentary group and the regional groups in the Bundestag and European Parliament should each send a representative.

The Commission is headed by Secretary General Isabell Huber.

According to the information, the committee is to analyze the outcome of the elections with the help of external experts and develop measures for future party work.

The commission is part of a long-term process: since the state elections in March, the party has dealt with the outcome of the election at numerous meetings and also given researchers the opportunity to have their say.

Advertisement for stability and Strobl

Shortly before the meeting, two Union state ministers had campaigned for Strobl to be re-elected as CDU state chief.

After Agriculture Minister Peter Hauk, Economics Minister Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut also spoke out in favor of the Deputy Prime Minister.

“In times of great dynamism and uncertainty, it is important to ensure political continuity in the country and stability in the governing coalition.

This is what our state chairman and deputy prime minister Thomas Strobl stands for, ”said Hoffmeister-Kraut.

The Southwest CDU had slipped to historically poor results in the state elections in March and in the federal election.

In the country, after the withdrawal of top candidate Susanne Eisenmann, it was still enough for Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann to participate in the government under the leadership of the Greens.

A traffic light coalition of the SPD, the Greens and the FDP is now emerging in the federal government, after the Union only finished second in the election with Chancellor candidate Armin Laschet.
