With a view to the Guest of Honor appearance, Spain has also developed an extensive funding program for translations.

The total output of the publishers is increasing steadily, so almost 75,000 new titles appeared last year.
The aim of the guest of honor appearance is also to bring the linguistic diversity into focus.
According to the data, around 20 percent of the titles published in Spain last year were written in Catalan, Galician or Basque.
The southern European country does not only want to show itself at the book fair in 2022, but is also planning various cultural projects, for example in Munich and Berlin.
“It will be an extensive Guest of Honor year all over Germany,” said Boos.
