The Hong Kong government announced on October 21 that 16 members of the Western New Territories District Council had been ruled invalid and had to leave their posts immediately. On October 21, the new British Foreign Minister Liz Truss posted a message on social networking sites to express her deep concern about the situation in Hong Kong. She said, Hong Kong has more and more restrictions on opposition voices and civil society.
In a Twitter post by Zhuo Huisi, 55 elected district councilors in Hong Kong were disqualified and more than 250 people were pressured to resign.
She also pointed out that some trade unions in Hong Kong were forced to disband.
Zhuo Huisi said that he called on the Hong Kong government to maintain freedom of speech.
