The FBI confirmed Thursday that the human remains found in the Carlton nature reserve, in Florida, are those of Brian Laundrie, the boyfriend and main suspect in the murder of Gabby Petito.
The remains were found near a backpack and notebook that belonged to Laundrie on Wednesday, after the boy's parents led authorities to where they believed he might be found.
Laundrie, who was Petito's fiancé, had been missing for more than a month.
The last time he was seen was with his family on a field trip shortly after his girlfriend disappeared.
Police had declared him a person of interest even before the 22-year-old's body was found on Sept. 19 in Wyoming.
