“It's about the question of how we want to live in the future”: Glonners want to be involved in the further development of their place

Glonn - One year later than planned, the first local call for an integrated urban development concept (ISEK) took place in Glonn last Tuesday. A citizens' dialogue in which a good 50 Glonner took part. “It's about the question of how we want to live in the future,” summarized one audience member of the lecture given by urban developer Barbara Hummel, who was commissioned by the community. The presented a possible approach to the development of the market community, which was fed by the answers from a questionnaire that her town planning office had distributed to the Glonner.

It's about the development of the local structure, the design of the center, the development of the outskirts, open spaces in public space, building in the future, traffic and other forms of mobility, flood protection, tourism and gastronomy Economy, local supply and social structures, around the question of how living should look in the future. Citizens should be involved in all of these considerations, which is why they were invited to this first local call. The approaches of the city planners, based on the questionnaire evaluation: Less traffic, especially less through traffic, better paths for pedestrians and cyclists, an upgraded town center, improved playground structures, affordable housing, better offerings for young people, a new large sports hall, a new community hall ,small shops, Bavarian gastronomy and a parking lot situation to be newly developed.

It is important to maintain the Glonn character, to continue the existing building culture, to bring life to the streets, to rethink mobility and to be climate-friendly.

The supplementary remarks by traffic planners Christoph Hessel and Michael Kurz sounded similarly auspicious: through traffic would have to be limited, speed reduced, stationary traffic reorganized and something done to avoid traffic looking for a parking space.

In addition, more should be done for pedestrians, cyclists, children, the elderly and people with disabilities.

All of these ideas met with great approval from those who were present.

It's about maintaining the Glonner character and bringing life to the streets.

Glonn's mayor, Josef Oswald, had already pointed out before the introduction to the topic that one had to see whether the proposals could be implemented, after all, everything had to be paid for. “You just have to be able to afford it,” said the town hall chief. Sometimes there are other hurdles, such as a lack of land for a project or protest by residents. It was no coincidence that the audience commented that the redesign of the marketplace had been an issue for decades and that a new gym had been discussed since the 1970s. Therefore, according to the city planners, one should act step by step. The redesign of the marketplace should begin, also because that would have the best signaling effect. What's next?

The city planning office will concretize its approaches.

The citizens should be further involved.

A second local call is planned and a twelve-person citizen's advisory council is to be set up to accompany the development concept.

Who should belong to this body, will decide the lot.

At the moment, at least 120 people from Glonn are interested in joining the advisory board, which is supposed to "provide a representative cross-section of the Glonn people", as Hummel explained.

The conclusion of the evening: there is great interest in the citizens of Glonn.

It also became clear that they would like more to be done for the youth and that the planned tower of the new fire station is a thorn in the side of some.
