In 1969, West High School students took to the streets of Denver to protest how they were treated.
Most of the students were Chicanos, a term that is still identified by a large number of Americans with Mexican and indigenous roots, as recounted by Ilana Girón, who participated in the demonstrations.
"My blood, sweat and tears are all over this neighborhood," he says of La Alma Lincoln Park, a neighborhood that clings to its roots.
