The community is planning a large residential project south of the Eichenau train station.

For some citizens, however, the development appears to be too massive.

Now an initiative has been formed to protest against the plans in this form.

Eichenau

- After a week, the protest has already picked up speed, as Oliver Kunze, one of the spokesmen for the “Citizens' Initiative for Humane Housing Development” (BIM), told the daily newspaper.

“We already have 200 signatures,” he says - all from residents close to the train station.

Kunze and other representatives recently presented the list to Mayor Peter Münster (FDP).

In the name of BIM, Kunze attaches great importance to the fact that he does not want to prevent residential construction.

For example, it is a "great idea" that apartments should be created there for employees of the railway and the nearby care center.

Only the massiveness with four to five floors is disturbing.

Along the railway line

Four-storey buildings are planned with an additional terrace level along the railway line, which will serve to improve the noise protection for the houses to the south.

The development is to drop off by one storey in the direction of Hans-Wirner-Straße.

If this is the way to build, Kunze fears that anonymity will return in such blocks.

Humane living is important to the initiative.

Kunze and the BIM members see another sticking point in the traffic effects and the flood situation.

Shading

Even the waiting S-Bahn passengers would probably suffer from the shading.

A BIM position paper also describes the following as essential: "The transom development would produce a west-east nozzle effect [...] with a corresponding impact on the feeling of security of those waiting."

Next Tuesday, October 26th (7 p.m. in the community center), the discussion of the master plan is on the agenda of the municipal council.

"I'm afraid that facts will be created there," said Kunze.

Mayor Peter Münster cannot completely deny this.

Potential investors or interested parties could refer to the resolution.

At the same time, however, he made it clear to the representatives of BIM: "We don't want to knock anything down with a resolution."

However, Münster rejected an architects' competition, as proposed by BIM.

You should not deviate from an award-winning design.

On the other hand, the mayor was open to an information event if one could show drafts or something comparable.

"At the current stage, that doesn't make any sense."

Eichenau's Town Hall chief Münster made one thing clear when handing over the signature: the construction of a parking garage in the north of the train station is the first requirement before the housing project can be tackled.

However, the property conditions are complicated: The areas belong partly to the municipality, partly to the railway.
