Four men were sentenced Thursday to prison in correctional for

"degradation or deterioration by fire"

of the facade of the prefecture of Cayenne in Guyana, in July, during a demonstration.

"It is not reasonable to sentence to 18 months in prison people who have burned three pallets"

, quipped the member of Bouches-du-Rhône.

In July 2020, the four convicts took part in a demonstration during which they had burned objects in front of the prefectural hotel in Cayenne.

The fire had degraded the facade of the building.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon arrived in agitated Guyana.

Some areas are still subject to a curfew and some establishments remain closed.

Since Monday, it has been difficult to find fuel.

The depots are blocked by the activists of the Caravan for Freedom, contesting the health pass as well as the sentences pronounced against four of them.

"

.

On Friday, the candidate will attend an Ariane rocket launch, from the Guyanese space center in Kourou.

"It will allow me to have a speech with a national vocation and not only Guyanese"
