The rebellious presidential candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon called Wednesday, October 20 for appeasement in Guyana where demonstrators blocked two fuel depots and where four people were sentenced last week to prison for facts dating back to the summer of 2020.
"We do not gain anything by carrying out such violent sentences"

"It is not reasonable to sentence to 18 months in prison people who have burned three pallets"

In July 2020, the four convicts took part in a demonstration during which they had burned objects in front of the prefectural hotel in Cayenne.
The fire had degraded the facade of the building.
Jean-Luc Mélenchon arrived in agitated Guyana.
Some areas are still subject to a curfew and some establishments remain closed.
Since Monday, it has been difficult to find fuel.
The depots are blocked by the activists of the Caravan for Freedom, contesting the health pass as well as the sentences pronounced against four of them.

In Guyana, the Insoumis won the first round of the 2017 presidential election, despite an abstention of 65.65%. He will meet with the president of the Territorial Collectivity, Gabriel Serville.
