Jonás Pérez maneuvers his minibus on the winding roads of La Palma, and the further he goes, the more the world that opens up to him behind his windshield looks like a disaster movie.
Police officers stand in front of roadblocks, the air is gray.
Jonás beckons us to look out the window.
Five kilometers away, a gigantic column of smoke rises from a mountain.
Despite the distance, she looks particularly threatening.

This mountain,

was not yet there a fortnight ago.

Until September 19, everything was calm here.
Then a volcano erupted on the Canary Island of La Palma, and since then it hasn't stopped spitting pieces of rock, ash and smoke into the air.
Flows of hot lava flow along the slope of the volcano and continue their course to the coast.
More than 1000 buildings were destroyed, 6000 people were brought to safety.
