With small doses and energetic optimization, the company "Filser - der Metzger" from Altenstadt became a member of the "Bavarian Environment Pact".

The butcher's shop, which has been in existence for over 100 years and is run by the fourth generation of Ludwig and Barbara Filser, was the first butcher in Bavaria to introduce a deposit system to avoid packaging waste in 2019.

District - The reusable deposit boxes can save around a ton of packaging material per year.

In addition, the company has modernized its energy systems.

The heat recovery in the cooling machines for heating domestic water is just as much a part of it as a photovoltaic system and a block-type thermal power station.

The heating was switched to wood chips.

To ensure that this system can be used efficiently, a local heating network was set up which, in addition to operation, supplies three municipal buildings, seven commercial units and 30 apartments with heat.

Honored for environmental protection achievements

For its environmental protection efforts, the company received a certificate signed by Environment Minister Thorsten Glauber, which identifies it as a member of the “Bavarian Environment and Climate Pact”.

District Administrator Andrea Jochner-Weiß presented this certificate to Ludwig and Barbara Filser.

The Peißenberg “Gasthof zur Post” and the Penzberg company “Roche Diagnostics GmbH” were also awarded the certificate.

The "Gasthof zur Post" received the award, among other things, for the use of three combined heat and power units to generate electricity and heat and energy improvements to the building as well as for the predominant purchase of regional food.

The company also provides its guests with rental bicycles and offers the option of charging e-bikes and electric cars.

Roche: Sustainable in all areas

“Roche” received the award because, as a large company, it pays attention to sustainability in all areas.

This includes reducing business flights, using electric vehicles and combined heat and power plants, using green electricity and reducing the amount of waste.

According to its environmental officer Michael Bauer, the company has set itself the goal of reducing CO2 emissions by 25 percent by 2025, by 40 percent by 2029 and by 100 percent by 2040.

Bauer's assessment: "We can do it."
