China stressed that the report adopted by the European Parliament on relations with Taiwan constitutes a serious violation of the basic rules of international relations, the one-China principle and the commitments made by the European Union on the Taiwan issue.
The European Parliament recently adopted a report on “Political Relations and Cooperation between the European Union and Taiwan”.
Commenting on the move, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said yesterday: "The European Parliament should immediately stop its words and actions that undermine China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and stop provocation and confrontation... We urge the parties concerned not to underestimate the determination." The resoluteness, firm resolve and great ability of the Chinese people to safeguard national sovereignty and the country's territorial integrity."
Wang stressed that there is only one China in the world and Taiwan is an inseparable part of it, stressing that the one-China principle enjoys international consensus and is the political basis for the diplomatic relations between Beijing and the European Union.
