Hundreds demonstrated last night (Friday) in Umm al-Fahm in front of the police station against the background of the three murders that have taken place in the city in the last three weeks, and the eight cases that have taken place in it so far in the last year.

At the end of Friday prayers in the town hall plaza, many residents of the city marched towards the police station and demonstrated against the violence in the city.

The demonstrators waved Palestinian flags, chanted rhythmic nationalist chants, sang the Palestinian anthem and demanded the dismissal of the station commander.

The demonstrators also shouted at the police in Hebrew: "Cowards against criminals - strong against protesters."

The policemen prestige the demonstrations and placed barriers as fifty meters before the station and stood in the medium between the demonstrators, when the commander of the Chief of Menashe, stood with Benan Menashe. Towards the end of the demonstration, a stone was thrown at the police. No one was injured or harmed. Police, cavalry and Border Police cavalry equipped with gas grenades and other means of dispersing demonstrations stood on standby at the entrance to the city, to deter an attempt to glide into the interurban road and block it.

Yesterday morning, Minister of Internal Security Amar Bar-Lev visited the city.

During his visit, Mayor Dr. Samir Mahamid told the Minister that according to the City Council's directive, from now on the city will repent after any murder incident that takes place in it. Bar Lev, for his part, noted his "commitment to work and not just statements and remarks" about what was happening in the city, adding that a police action plan for Umm al-Fahm would soon be launched, including several points from the municipality's action plan. Khachrush, who heads the new crime prevention wing in Arab society, praised the yeshiva for its cooperation with the Umm al-Fahm municipality and promised to present a preliminary report by next Tuesday following the last three murders in the city.

"I no longer believe in promises," former MK Dr. Yosef Jabarin, a resident of the city who attended the demonstration, said today. "I have been in the Knesset for six years. Since I entered, we have been talking about plans and results and talking about change. "The number of murders is only increasing. In practice, the blood only continues to be shed. The criminal organizations continue to do as they please without the enforcement of the law enforcement authorities. The result is very difficult and it is impossible to remain silent." Jabarin added that "it is impossible not to feel the anger between the young people and the residents of Umm al-Fahm, and in Arab society in general." The former MK further said that “everything promises on paper. The young people are angry. There is no personal security. Families are afraid to send their children out at night. This is an unacceptable situation and so it is natural that the public popular struggle will resume. It is natural to see hundreds and possibly thousands of young people taking to the streets. "

On Saturday evening, the People's Committee announced that the demonstration it had scheduled for Shabbat was canceled.

Instead he intends to unite forces with the Hirak youth movement and hold joint demonstrations in the coming Fridays.
