Grand Trophée Dassault History and Heritage: Bournazel, the time of rebirth

REPORT - It was a monument in peril, dormant in the Aveyron countryside ... At the end of a restoration carried out with beating pace, Gérald and Martine Harlin have given it back the magnificence that was its own in the 16th century.


Sleeping in oblivion, the castle of Bournazel, an unknown jewel of the Renaissance, could never have woken up from the bad dream which seemed to lead it, slowly but surely, towards ruin.

Abandoned following its sacking during the French Revolution, partially leveled (eastern facade) in the 19th century and then transformed after the war into a convalescent home for the miners of the coal mines of Decazeville, the old residence built between 1540 and 1560 by John I de Buisson, from a family of Rouergat and Toulouse bankers, has continued to lose its splendor over the years and centuries.

Until 2007, Gérald Harlin, Deputy CEO and CFO of the Axa group (world leader in insurance), bought it and decided, with his wife, Martine, to restore it to its splendor.
