Students who cannot be tested for Corona are not allowed to attend classroom lessons.

Since the beginning of October they have been considered truants.

From All Saints' Day onwards, distance learning can be refused.

The headmasters are now looking to talk to them.

District

- "Pupils who have not been vaccinated or have recovered, do not undergo the necessary tests and therefore cannot take part in lessons, therefore fundamentally violate their compulsory education."

It affects students across the county.

There are not very many.

Nevertheless, there are individual test refusers at almost every school.

In the case of grammar schools and secondary schools, one speaks of about a handful each.

Grace period ends

There is a grace period for those who are at home until the autumn holidays.

The parents concerned were made aware of this, says René Horak, director of the Olching high school.

“And we would like to point out that it is disadvantageous for the child to keep them away from class.” Refusing the tests and not taking part in face-to-face classes will cause massive damage to the students.

The exact procedure is still to be decided

“From All Saints' Day on, things will get serious,” says Walter Zellmeier, director of the Viscardi grammar school in Bruck. Parents and students have been informed about the new regulation. So far, the students who stayed away from class because of the compulsory test have been treated as long-term sick. They receive distance tuition and are for the most part provided with teaching materials by the teachers. “If they are considered truant, then the students no longer have a legal right to distance learning,” says Zellmeier. How this will then work out at the Viscardi-Gymnasium is still to be decided.

Doris Lux, Rector of the Realschule in Maisach, emphasizes: "You have to look at the individual case." So far, you have always found an individual way during the pandemic.

Even now that a few are considered truant, she tries to talk to those affected “to find alternatives”.

Create clarity

There are also individual cases at elementary and secondary schools, reports Education Authority Director Thomas Frey.

These students are currently still being supplied with teaching materials.

A new decision will be made from the autumn holidays.

One thing is certain: "The regulation was overdue in order to create clarity for the schools," says Frey.

In general, a distinction should be made when it comes to test refusers, according to the Puchheim high school.

Among those who are currently staying at home, there are not only those who strictly refuse to take the test.

There are also students for whom the risk of infection in face-to-face classes still seems too great and who therefore prefer distance learning.

The Max Born Gymnasium in Germering is currently an exception.

“We don't have a single case,” says director Robert Christoph.

In the past, a few students stayed at home because the corona situation was too unsafe for them or their parents.

Currently, however, all of the over 1000 students at the grammar school are in classroom instruction.
