At the moment it is not easy to fulfill your dream of a new car.

The waiting times are long.

Small but important chips are missing.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen

- Most people think twice about buying a new car. Is the car big enough for the family? An electric vehicle or a traditional combustion engine? Seat heating and / or a sunroof? Stefan Stroebel, Sales Manager at the Bader Mainzl car dealership in Wolfratshausen, knows that customers usually spend four to eight weeks configuring their dream car. They currently have more time: “We currently have delivery times between nine and 15 months. I can only say that with reservations, because some promised deliveries have already had to be postponed. ”Usually 40 to 60 new cars are always available for sale at the Bader Mainzl business park. Currently there are no more than 20.

The semiconductor shortage hits many industries hard.

From electrical appliance manufacturers to toy manufacturers, almost all industrial companies depend on these chips.

However, there is hardly a segment that suffers from the shortage as much as the automotive industry.

And it's not just missing semiconductors: other supply chains are also interrupted, reports Stroebel.

Sometimes there is a complete standstill, important metals cannot be delivered to the factories. ”Stroebel knows of thousands of cars that are about to be completed but cannot go to the dealerships because individual parts are still missing.

The slowdown in new cars will cause further problems in the long term.

Georgios Britziolas, Managing Director of Auto Team Munich South in Egling, is already feeling this.

“That affects us all and runs through like a rat's tail.” Britziolas explains: If no new cars are sold, he will get almost no used models for his customers.

How long this grievance will last, he cannot say.

But he states: “When there are few used cars to buy, prices naturally go up.

For a car that cost 10,000 euros before this crisis, you now have to reckon with at least one to two thousand euros more. "

So if you are planning to buy a car, you should think about it early on and may have to make compromises.

"In the past, you rarely saw so many cars with strange colors," says Günter Jorde, owner of the Jorde dealership in Geretsried.

"The dealers give out everything - even cars that no one wanted because of the color before are now gone immediately."

“We are assuming that ten to eleven million vehicles cannot be built this year,” says Albert Waas from the consulting firm Boston Consulting.

Buyers of Mercedes cars, for example, sometimes have to forego electronic special equipment.

According to “Automobilwoche”, BMW and Audi are planning to deliver some vehicles without certain electronic extras for the time being.

Such vehicles would later be retrofitted at the manufacturer's expense.
