Thomas Müller, director of the Gilching social service, is happy about something normal.

For the first time, a public general meeting was allowed to take place after a long Corona break.

Among other things, the farewell to long-standing board colleagues was made up for.

Gilching

- The Gilching social service celebrates its 50th birthday this year. Although there was no question of partying. Because like many others, the anniversary fell victim to the lockdown (we reported). "Postponed is not canceled," says Thomas Müller in an interview with Starnberger Merkur. That is why the festival under the motto “50 plus 1” will be rescheduled for next year. “And then we really celebrate. Provided that the Corona values don't put a spanner in the works. "

The official farewell to the two long-time board members Ursula Hübner, who has been on the board since 2005, and Irene Böhm, who was appointed to the full-time board in 2010, also fell into the water.

The third member at the time was Marc Engelhardt, who has meanwhile moved to Spain.

He succeeded Müller on July 1, 2019.

Since the departure of Hübner and Böhm at the end of 2020, Ursula Beyer has stood by his side on an equal footing.

Growth: Social service has 700 members

During the general meeting, Müller thanked Hübner and Böhm for their longstanding commitment and for staying with the association as members. Müller is satisfied with the membership development. “Contrary to our fears, we have grown and now have around 700 members. It is gratifying that the trend is back towards more social commitment. ”However, it looks different with the staff. “We currently have 92 employees. However, there is a lack of people who work in the areas of driving service and housekeeping, whether part-time or by the hour. Age or education are irrelevant. The only important thing is to enjoy the job and enjoy dealing with older, needy people. We are also happy to receive male applicants. "

The list of social services currently includes 40 private households and 51 residents in the adjoining assisted living area who use the services on a daily or occasional basis.

According to Müller, the demand in the home economics sector has increased enormously.

And what about the various offers within the café and the center on Andechser Straße?

"To the delight of our residents, anything is possible again at the moment," explains Müller.

In day care there are even some free places for people from care level one.

In addition, the Monday meeting, the narrative café, the handicraft afternoon, the veal sausage breakfast, the common lunch and the reading afternoons are on offer.

However, guests from outside are only allowed to come to the Monday meeting.
