For Saint-Émilion, the 2018 vintage started off rather badly: the first six months of rain, and a particularly dry and hot summer. However, thanks to the capacity of certain terroirs to retain water in order to redistribute it in the event of drought, this year we obtain dense wines full of freshness on limestone soils, while they express more roundness and velvety on clay soils. Thanks to long and peaceful harvests, the properties were able to harvest with good ripeness - sometimes with the risk of over-ripeness. If we believe today, only three years later, that 2018 will be a “great” vintage, it will also have been marked by a certain heterogeneity, with wines that are sometimes unbalanced, hence the need to make the right choices. .
So, in order to make this selection of the finest gems of Saint-Émilion at the best value for money, the Figaro Vin team of tasters tasted and rated more than 50 wines of the vintage.
