Planning on Bozaunweg: after 55 years a fourth branch for the roundabout?

Anyone who wants to drive from Grünau in the direction of the cemetery in Unterhaching knows the tricky point: turning left from Bozaunweg into Ottobrunner Straße.

Anyone who wants to drive from Grünau in the direction of the cemetery in Unterhaching knows the tricky point: turning left from Bozaunweg into Ottobrunner Straße.

Unterhaching

- Only 50 meters further east there is a roundabout with three branches to date.

The fourth connection, to the north into Grünau, is included in the development plan for 1966, but has not yet been implemented.

Now, 55 years later, the roundabout topic, which has often been discussed, is moving.

So that the risky maneuvers on Bozaunweg are a thing of the past.

It's about direct connection

A direct connection from Von-Stauffenberg-Straße to the roundabout: that's what it's all about in the end.

To replace the "siphon", as Mayor Wolfgang Panzer (SPD) called the dangling over the Bozaunweg in the building committee.

The traffic situation is clearly different from 1966, and bus traffic in particular has difficulties with the complicated turning, "because the cars coming from the roundabout are already accelerating again on Bozaunweg".

The specialist office should fix it

So now a specialist office is to be commissioned to work out a planning concept that connects Von-Stauffenberg-Strasse with the previously planted northern part of the roundabout.

"It is overdue and right to get involved in this planning," said the CSU parliamentary group leader Korbinian Rausch in the building committee.

Effects up to Grünau

However, it should not be about the roundabout alone, but about a holistic traffic concept.

Because the new connection would have an impact on the Grünau up to the confluence at the corner of Bibergerstrasse and Leipziger Strasse, as a 2015 traffic census by Professor Harald Kurzak revealed.

However, unwanted crawl traffic can be made unattractive by traffic lights.

Gertraud Schubert (Free Voters), who lives there, does not believe that many would discover Grünau as an abbreviation anyway: "90 percent of car trips there are based on local residents' source traffic."

Main axis to the bicycle road

Franz Felzmann (CSU) nevertheless warned to be on the safe side to keep an eye on both interests - the roundabout connection - and not overloading the Grünau. Armin Konetschny (Greens) suggested “pouring an overall concept” in order to create a tangent towards the cemetery; For example, Von-Stauffenberg-Straße could be declared as the main axis to the bicycle street.

So there are a lot of ideas that need to be reconciled with the bus routes and the district's plans to create a regional cycle path connection there.

The planning concept initiated by the building committee should now bring clever approaches.

Although Mayor Panzer treads on the brakes when it comes to speed: “We're tackling this, but this doesn't necessarily have to happen next year.” After 55 years with a three-armed roundabout, the fourth branch is apparently not too much of a problem.
