Germering - unusual and postponed events, empty club houses and sports facilities, lack of social contact - in the last 1.5 years, cultural and social life has stood still for a long time.

Cinemas, theaters, sports clubs or educational and cultural institutions have now reopened, but not all citizens can fully participate.

For example, a lack of accessibility, insufficient age-appropriate orientation or inadequate integration of people with disabilities are still major obstacles in society.

In order to counteract this problem, an association of the participation advisory board, the social officer Herbert Sedlmeier and employees of the city has now published an information brochure for people with disabilities and “People 60plus”.

This was presented on October 22nd.

The “guide for successful participation”, as the new brochure is called, replaces the previous “senior citizen and handicapped guide”.

The information booklet offers a collection of information that is intended to help both target groups to participate in social life in Germering.

A project that is "very close to the heart" of Mayor Andreas Haas.

Participation Advisory Board as the successor to the Disability and Seniors Advisory Council

The participation advisory board, which was formed at the end of 2019, was jointly responsible for the elaboration.

"The first of its kind in the Fürstenfeldbruck district," declared Advisory Board member Michael Lerch and his deputy Ortrun Obermeier.

As the successor to the Disability and Senior Citizens' Advisory Council, he “looks after the interests of people with a handicap and the elderly”, added social officer Sedlmaier.

The content of the new brochure was presented by Martin Rattenberger, Head of the Office for Youth, Family, Seniors, Social Affairs and Schools, and Gianna Wolfsen, Head of Department for Homelessness and Social Affairs.

For example, under the “Be active” section, you can find information on the areas of gastronomy, travel, sports, education and culture.

Advice on a self-determined lifestyle was also taken into account, as were things worth knowing about living in old age, from the emergency call system to old people's and nursing homes.

The brochure also contains a chapter devoted to information on support in everyday life, such as vehicle aids, self-help groups and facilities for people with disabilities.

A barrier-free MVV timetable, a list of offers for senior citizens and an overview of important addresses complete the brochure.

The attempt was made to be informative and to cover all situations in life, reported Sedlmeier, who was delighted that “the creation went completely smoothly”.

Edition of 2,000 pieces

The purely advertising-financed brochure, with a circulation of 2,000, is displayed in the town hall and “at locations that are heavily frequented by the target group”, such as pharmacies, doctors and libraries.

It is also available on the website of the city of Germering.

“Our most important task is that all people come together on an equal footing,” Lerch made clear.

And so the people in charge hope to “bring the people in Germering a little closer together with this guide and give them the opportunity to enrich their everyday life a little”.
