The designated North Rhine-Westphalian CDU leader and Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst wants to put cooperation in the Union on a new footing.
"In the end, the CDU and CSU were always a strong bond, but now they have to work on their relationship: Better to be a couple therapist than a divorce lawyer," said Wüst of the "Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung" (Friday edition).
Essen - CDU and CSU should in future meet at least once a year with their board members.
After the historic defeat in the Bundestag election, a new team spirit is also required.
"In addition to the joint parliamentary group, we need another bracket in order to get back together with the sister party," the WAZ quoted the NRW transport minister as saying.
On Saturday he is to be elected chairman of the NRW-CDU at the state party conference in Bielefeld.
In the coming week, his election as the new Prime Minister is due in Düsseldorf's Lanstag.
